A coach focuses on helping an individual to develop and improve existing capabilities. By working with an individual to gain clarity and direction to set meaningful goals, a coach will provide support along the journey to achieving those goals.

The key to coaching success is to help the client understand, face or eliminate barriers to being more effective. Clients who find themselves ‘stuck’ would benefit from coaching to gain mobility and move forwards.

Coaches use questions, methodologies and assessment tools to support development and personal productivity. A coach facilitates and encourages greater self-awareness and personal growth within an individual.

A coach will maintain focus on goals and will assist in closing the gap between where a client is now and where they would like to be.

Trusting relationships are built on the belief and fact that all coaching conversations remain confidential between the individual and the coach. When coaching is provided, the relationship may extend to the individual's line manager, who helps define the performance goals and provides feedback on progress, but does not engage in the actual coaching sessions.
